Can I use the 2 in 1 Black & Decker edger/trencher as a landscaping edger?

I thought the thing could be adjusted to cut at a 45 degree angle but the only adjustments are depth and whether or not you want to use this metal guide that follows along a concrete sidewalk. Will it be okay if it’s not 45 degrees and it just digs a rut? I want to edge my mulched areas and make it look finished.
